Ask yourself why...

So in my last post, I  reminisced into my "unsaved" days. I wore what I wanted when i wanted and could care less what anyone thought about it; and it almost got me in trouble. Now while I got a LOT of love in the responses thanking God for keeping me through this event; I noticed no one asked me why I was dressed in that manner.  Now  there is the argument that any woman is entitled to wear whatever and as she pleases; now while I do agree with this argument, can we say this applies to Christian women? Does it? No...

 why?

I could sit here and beat you about the head about modesty and how long your skirt should be  and what is the acceptable length and tightness of your shirt but I have a feeling you've heard this all before. In this post, lets dig a little deeper and check the motives for the way we dress. Why do you dress the way you do.

I like the attention
Obadiah 1 vs 3: The pride of your heart has deceived you...
 Day Fourty Four
Have you ever walked into a party and you know EVERYBODY is looking at you? Feels good right? Ever thought why? Why does the fact that you hold the attention of everyone make you feel good? In most situations, there root is pride.  Please don't get me wrong, I am not saying the fact that you strive to look good makes you proud, No, but  intentionally dressing explicitly in order to bring attention to yourself holds the root of pride in it. Some people people get a rush from being the center of a discussion regardless of whether its good or bad. Let’s be honest, its a power trip.

I need affirmation
Romans 12 vs 2: Do not be conformed to this world...
 Mirror am I pretty yet?
Latest trend… Hottest fashion….the "must have" of the season. Have you ever bought something or worn something because that’s what everyone is wearing? Have you been looked down on because what you are wearing, doesn’t fit what the world thinks you should be wearing? Have you ever heard “ If I had a body like yours, hmm, I wouldn’t be dressing the way you do!" Flaunt it!! show it!!.  Fashion and what people consider “fashion” has propelled what women wear for so long.  They tell me when I am sexy, especially with skin showing, I am claiming my sexuality, I am owning my body, I am not letting anyone control me and guess what? The more I do it, the more people like me and accept me and invite me to parties, and make me relevant. Through this relevance, I gain my value. Eish!! The lies we allow to live in our hearts. People have found their  value in people for so long!  When I let the world dictate to me what beautiful is, I am letting it conform and oppress me. I don’t need YOU, to tell me I am pretty, my father already did.

The next time you put something on, ask yourself why? The reasons, if honest, may blow your mind.

…Musings from atop the potter’s wheel.

Hmmmm..thought provoking post. God help us to uphold His standards and not conform to the standards of the world.

'Why?'
A reason God looks at the heart and not the appearance...
Thanks 'inthe'

'Show it, flaunt it', and we get drawn into a self serving agenda without even considering the 'why'. Thank you for this timely reminder to live our lives for the audience of one.

Wow! Such wisdom. I never really did look at dress code in this manner. Asking why you are dressing as you are and making sure that you are not dressing this way or that way because that's what is in vogue. Thanks a lot.

*The purpose is what makes a thing good or bad.*

our reasons do count, as God looks at the heart. Great post

WOW!!..this is so revealing...I've tried to ask myself same thing a couple of times...but seems I don't get a really sincere answer from me
I'll do this more in line with God's word

girl I aint going to lie, there are many times I have over ruled the holy spirit when I felt a nudge in my heart to change what I am wearing. I am skinny so I get away with a lot of things or so I thought until they decided to pull a questionable looking pic from my med sch graduation for the WHOLE Church to see during birthday celebration slide. GAL never again!!! Now the holy spirit doesn't have to nudge me. smh

Great point. Thank u. Also goes to lazy dressers like me. God had to make me iron my T shirt today. I really didn't care to look my best but He thought otherwise
